Whew, so much going on I finally have a short break in the mayhem to write a bit more of the Peru report!
The afternoon of day 9 we hiked the Tapir trail. It was relatively quiet as rainforests go. However, we did quickly come across a small troop of Red Howlers who where not to quick to offer good photo opps. I did get this shot that was somewhat sharp at least. It is definitely tough to hold
6 pounds of camera and lens looking straight up into the canopy... waiting... holding breath... shooting... darn, they moved. You get the idea.
At a small clearing by a stream we came across a pair of Bluish-fronted Jacamars. They are very similar in appearance and sound to the Central American version, the Rufous-tailed Jacamar. We continued on, crossing over the creek.
Once across we noticed this small Bufo toad alongh the trail. Most likely a young Bufo Marinus as we were near water.
As we enjoyed the toad this fly landed on the tree next to me. I was sure it was eyeing up my bald head for its next quick meal, so I put my hat back on after taking this image!
This area is full of butterflies and I am still going through images to ID. This satyr is one of many very similar species!
Our local guide noticed this orange object enshrouded in the bush. It was a lifer for me and the rest of the group. I will offer a
free Wildside hat to the first person with the correct answer as to the species of this nesting bird!
